Evaluation

The Jury observed that the novel initiative Property Management System (PMS) fills an existing gap in terms of solving a major problem in budget travel using the power of cloud computing. It was also noted that the PMS has a very well-crafted and easy to use user interface that can be easily managed at the level of even the hotel receptionists. The screen display in the application in the form of a tape chart wherein the hotelier easily inputs when a room gets booked or is occupied. This gets updated in real time on the PMS server, thus allowing all Travel Agents, distributors and customers to see the room availability in real time. The Jury also noted that the PMS has significant acceptance and currently it is used by hoteliers and guest house owners in the budget segment across 275+locations in India with around 4000+ properties spanning over 200 major travel destinations in the country.

MGHWorld Channel Manager : Sell Your Rooms Online


A Channel Manager is platform where producers can sell their products to multiple buyers. In hotel Industry a Channel Manager is a cloud based technology which sells hotel rooms on through Online travel agencies, travel agents and all those buyers who are connected with him.
By 2004 Hotel Industry analyzed the amount of bookings which can be received online (as mentioned in one of my previous blog Online Travel Agencies – The next big thing). In order to make the business smooth hotelier started allocating some specific amount of rooms to different Online travel websites, like 2 rooms for Makemytrip, 2 rooms for Yatra.com, 1 room for Travelguru etc. But this system had a major flaw.

For example a Hotel XYZ has 25 rooms with an average occupancy of 80% throughout the year. So to fill up his remaining 20% (10 rooms) he tied up with 5 OTA –  Makemytrip, Yatra, Cleartrip, Travelguru & Myguesthouse. Hotel allocated 2 rooms to all 5 websites & started receiving bookings from them. So what is the flaw here?

  1. If a buyer is searching for more than 2 rooms on Online websites then hotel XYZ won’t appear in the search list, as the hotel has restricted online websites to not sell more than 2 rooms.
  2. If Makemytrip has sold his 2 allocated rooms on some specific days then hotel XYZ will be sold out on Makemytrip on those dates, even if the hotels has rooms available.
  3. In order to maintain the room allocation on 5 Online websites Happy hotel has to maintain 5 different allocation systems.

Because of the above points, the final outcome is “Business Loss”

This is where Channel Manager comes for the rescue. The technology behind CM understands the fact that the allocation of rooms is not a good business model for those hotels who are receiving online bookings.   1. If hotel XYZ is using a Channel Manager then it doesn't need to use multiple allocation system, as Channel manager has tie-up with all Online travel websites.
  2. If hotel XYZ has 50% occupancy available for some specific dates then Channel Manager will make that 50% visible on all OTA on those dates. As soon as some rooms are sold, let say half of them, then Channel Manager will only show the remaining room inventory on all websites, as Channel Manager is LIVE.
